The Disinfection, Resistance and Transmission Epidemiology (DiRTE) lab is a basic research lab investigating the transmission of pathogens in the clinical setting with an ultimate goal of preventing healthcare-associated infections. As part of the larger Duke Center for Antibiotic Stewardship and Infection Prevention (DCASIP), the DiRTE lab is the hub for all lab-based research. The lab also serves as the molecular epidemiology lab for the Duke University Health System investigating hospital outbreaks.
The DiRTE Lab was recently highlighted on the Duke University School of Medicine Newsroom. Lab Director Bobby Warren and DCASIP Director Dr. Dev Anderson give some insight on how the lab formed and the work performed by its staff in the article Keeping Things Clean with the DIRTE Lab.
