Duke/UNC Prevention Epicenters Program

Our group has been a member of the CDC's Prevention Epicenters Program for the past five years.  This 10-member group includes the top healthcare epidemiology research centers in the world and allows the Duke University/University of North Carolina Epicenter to closely collaborate with investigators from the following institutions:

  • Chicago Prevention and Intervention Epicenter (Rush University, Cook County Health and Hospitals System)
  • Emory University
  • Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and University of California, Irvine
  • The Johns Hopkins University
  • University of Illinois, Chicago
  • University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine
  • University of Maryland School of Medicine
  • University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  • University of Utah School of Medicine
  • Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Major studies currently underway as part of the Prevention Epicenters Program include research on antibiotic resistance in surgery, reducing recurrence of C.difficile infection, and the role of antimicrobial stewardship in the care of sepsis patients.
